Specializzata in dipinti, sculture e mobili antichi dal Medioevo all'Ottocento, Tornabuoni Arte - Arte Antica inaugura i suoi spazi nel 2006 grazie all’iniziativa di Roberto Casamonti, proseguendo il percorso nel mercato dell'arte già svolto attraverso le sue gallerie di arte moderna e contemporanea.

La galleria ha sede in Via Maggio, una delle strade più antiche e affascinanti di Firenze. Ospitata al piano terra di Palazzo Giovanni, un prestigioso edificio del XIV secolo adiacente a Palazzo Pitti, la sua posizione è intrisa di storia. Via Maggio, un tempo la "Via Maggiore" e arteria principale della città, fu percorsa dalla famiglia Medici quando si trasferì a Palazzo Pitti nel XVI secolo. Dall'inizio del XIX secolo, questa via è divenuta il cuore dell'antiquariato fiorentino, costellata da gallerie e botteghe artigiane.

Dal 2024, Tornabuoni Arte - Arte Antica si estende con un nuovo spazio espositivo al piano terra dello storico Palazzo di Bianca Cappello, attiguo alla sede principale. Questa espansione rende la nostra Galleria Antiquaria la più ampia di Via Maggio, consolidando la sua presenza nel panorama dell'antiquariato di alta qualità.

La galleria si distingue per una vasta e ricercata collezione, con un'attenzione particolare ai maestri del Rinascimento e del Barocco, includendo opere significative come le terrecotte invetriate dei Della Robbia. Tra le sue peculiarità, spicca la suggestiva sala principale affrescata e un ambiente più intimo dedicato ai dipinti del XIV e XV secolo, i cosiddetti "Fondi oro". In una penombra evocativa che richiama l'atmosfera delle austere chiese medievali, queste opere brillano in tutto il loro splendore, cariche di misticismo.

Specializing in Old Master paintings, sculptures and furniture from the Middle Age to the 19th century, Tornabuoni Arte – Arte Antica was opened in 2006 by Roberto Casamonti, furthering the path in the art market already established through his galleries for modern and contemporary art.

The gallery is located on Via Maggio, one of the oldest and most charming streets in Florence. Housed on the ground floor of Palazzo Giovanni, a prestigious 14th-century building adjacent to Pitti Palace, its location is steeped in history. Via Maggio, once known as the ‘Via Maggiore’ and the main artery of the city, was frequently traversed by the Medici family when they moved to Pitti Palace in the 16th century. Since the early 19th century, this street has become at the heart of the Florentine antiques trade, with numerous galleries and artisan workshops.

Since 2024, Tornabuoni Arte – Arte Antica has expanded with a new exhibition space located on the ground floor of the historic Palazzo of Bianca Cappello, adjacent to the main gallery. This addition makes our antique gallery the largest on Via Maggio, strengthening our presence in the high-quality antiques market scene. The gallery is distinguished by a vast and refined collection, with particular attention to the masters of the Renaissance and Baroque, including significant artworks such as the glazed terracottas by the Della Robbia family. Key features of our gallery are the striking main room with frescoes, and a more intimate space dedicated to 14th and 15th-century paintings, the so-called ‘Gold Grounds’. In an evocative dimness that recalls the atmosphere of austere medieval churches, these works shine in all their splendour, infused with mysticism.
